Cosmetic acupuncture aka acupuncture facial rejuvenation is a non-invasive alternative to Western medical injectables, fillers and surgical procedures. It naturally enhances muscle tone, strengthens and firms skin appearance, and improves overall health and wellbeing.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that aging is directly influenced by internal health; physical, emotional and spiritual. Therefore, during a cosmetic acupuncture treatment, your acupuncturist will use not only local points of the face but also body points to address your overall health issues.
WHO SHOULD GET COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE?
The best candidates for cosmetic acupuncture are people who are looking for a natural, alternative way to reduce the signs of aging and improve their inner vitality for a more relaxed, healthy appearance to their face. It is a good alternative for women who don’t want the side effects associated with more invasive cosmetic procedures.
Cosmetic acupuncture may not be suitable for people with serious health conditions or who are pregnant or trying, have chronic headaches, high blood pressure, or suffering from an acute illness; should you fall within these categories, you are strongly advised to consult your doctor to determine your candidacy for this treatment.
HOW IS COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE DONE?
Typically, cosmetic acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of 30 to 50 needles, with the majority of them on the face and head, and some on other parts of the body such as the arms, hands, lower legs, and feet. The duration of acupuncture treatment tends to be rather relaxing. Upon insertion of the hair-thin needle, the needling site may feel a dull aching, warm tingling sensations, or even electrical impulses that traverse up and down the body—all of which are normal signs that the acupoints are being activated—and these should subside fairly quickly.
For intensive facial rejuvenation treatment, some people may experience a sensation of tightness or pulling while the needles are in, although nothing painful. Otherwise, any sharp pains or poking sensations are cause for alarm, so be sure to tell your acupuncturist if these occur. Performed correctly, you should be able to completely relax during acupuncture treatment, and you may forget that the needles are there.
WHY NOT GET BOTOX?
Botox cannot treat wrinkles due to aging or sun exposure or reduce the fine lines (only works on dynamic wrinkles – smile lines, frown lines) There’s also a risk of paralysis of surrounding muscles & upper eyelid droop and it only yields temporary results while costing at least $600.00 every 3-4 months! You also may not be able to raise eyebrows and have other expressions and long term effects of botox are still unknown.
WHAT IF I ALREADY HAD BOTOX?
Facial Acupuncture Rejuvenation actually is recommended for patients who have previously had botox injections in the face. Cosmetic Acupuncture keeps the botox effective for a longer period of time and most people find they only need to upkeep the botox every 8 to 12 months rather than every 3 to 6 months!
I HAVE HAD A FACELIFT. DO I STILL NEED COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE?
A facelift will give you tight, wrinkle-free skin, but the quality of skin and underlying muscle tone remain untouched. It does not improve overall facial muscle integrity, circulation, collagen and elastin production and brighten complexion, as does cosmetic acupuncture. We can also perform scar reduction to give you a smoother, more natural looking appearance after an invasive procedure while bringing more blood flow to the face in order to facilitate healing.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
A cosmetic acupuncture session takes approximately 60 minutes with about 15 minutes for a consultation and assessment and 45 minutes with the needles inserted.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE?
Cosmetic acupuncture is a completely safe procedure. Side effects are minor and rare; they include slight bruising or spot bleeding at the needle site. This will be discussed in detail on your consent forms.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE?
The results from cosmetic acupuncture are gradual and subtle; they include reduction of fine lines and softening of deep wrinkles, firming of jowls, a reduction in the size of under-eye bags, puffiness, and drooping, enhanced skin tone, and an improvement in energy levels and overall well-being. They also stimulate collagen growth and create ‘microcirculation’ which improves blood flow to the face.
RECOMMENDED COURSE FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS?
Most people will see a tighter, more lifted appearance with each cosmetic acupuncture session; however, results are progressive.
|20-30s||Soften, brighten and hydrate skin: 6-12 sessions, once a week.
Targeted antiging / preventative antiging: 6-12 sessions, once a week.
|Once every 6-8 weeks|
|40s||Anti-aging & targeted areas: 12 treatments, 1 – 2 times a week.||Once every 4-6 weeks|
|50-60s||Anti-aging & targeted areas: 12-24 treatments, 1 – 2 times a week.||Once every 4 weeks|
HOW LONG DOES THE EFFECTS OF COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE LAST?
The effects of Facial Acupuncture Rejuvenation are cumulative and last up to 3-5 years after a course of 12 treatments, with regular maintenance.
Each patient will be different, but usually each patient will need maintenance treatments once per month or once per season. Cosmetic Acupuncture diminishes the fine lines already existing on the skin and prevents the skin from aging.
